Absolute pleasure! I don't think I want to make a habit of it though, unless people are willing to pay for my research! :)

I can't say I've heard that before, Rory... but I had a little dig around. It seems to have been a pretty strong rumour at the time (I tend to avoid a lot of rumours/spoilers for reasons I mentioned at the end of our last season of shows), that the Moff wanted to bring the cybermen back but restoring some of the strength that seems to be missing from the twigletty new ones. I've certainly read a few reports that claim the Moff has said he wants to use the original cybermen. It would make sense, as the new ones are stupidly easy to defeat and The Next Doctor confused their backstory completely... And budget restrictions would definitely be a reasonable explanation...

Nothing ever seems to have been officially said on it though.

I read somewhere (or heard in one of the myriad DW podcasts circling the earth) that the Cybermen in "The Big Bang" were meant to be the original Mondasian variety, but the Moff had no funds in the budget to alter the Cybus suits. Can anyone confirm that?

2 reasons. 1, the idea of the guide is to do things from my memory. 2, it's an entry on the Cybermen, not their tiny metal pets.

Even more than the Daleks I fear the reboot's attempt to create a new mythology has undermined the scariness of the cybermen. Monsters that clunk everytime they walk are just annoying, and attempting to explain the 'human'connection removed much of the mystery that made them even scarier. I remember cybermen from my youth (Pertwee/Baker T) as genuinely scarey, but in a very quiet sort of way.

Goodness, you read all of that and only had a factual issue with whether it was arrows or bolts? I can't say I'm not impressed... :)

They weren't arrows- as I remember it, they were super-speed energy bolt type things. Obviosly. It's the same sort of difference between real cybermen and those weird upgrade things.

So glad you said Tomb of the Cybermen was best episode. I don't think I could have forgiven you if you didn't.
